When the Ethereals return, they connect to ordinary people who become the Possessed and take on their supernatural abilities. Era: Lost Legend is a tabletop roleplaying game that takes place during the rule of the Stardust Empire, who managed to harness the Possessed and create a robot army to secure their rule. Instead of just harnessing the powers of the Possessed like those in power struggles usually do, Stardust secured their victory by using the Ethereal's crystals (which allow Possessed to exist) to power their robots.
Stardust surprised everyone by becoming a corporation instead of openly dominating the world - most famous now for their contributions as an energy supplier.
Now there's no sign of the Ethereals leaving and Stardust Inc. is still very much in control. However, resistance movements with Possessed among them have risen up to stand against their forces.
